What’s Trending with Gilbert Gottfried

Fotor0707181851

If there could be a face next to “larger than life personality” in the dictionary, it would definitely be that of Gilbert Gottfried. When he walks into the room, he’s initially an underwhelming presence- standing at 5’5″ and soft spoken. Yes, you read that right, he is soft spoken. But when the camera turns on he dives into that famous Aflac voice and let’s his mind and mouth go straight into the gutter, a place I usually reserve just for my mind.

I had the pleasure of witnessing this transformation first hand while co-hosting for What’s Trending, a huge online live show with more than a 1,000,000 subscribers. Considering it’s an online show, and Gilbert Gottfried has had some not-so-small issues with the online world, it was pretty balls-y for him to be our guest for a half hour. Then again, he was promoting his book Rubber Balls and Liquor, so maybe this was just a serendipitous meeting.

Check out the craziness for yourself. My ears are still ringing.

Throwback Thursday: Taylor Swift As Gollum

Fotor0603114719

I may be known for my take on Ke$ha, but my favorite parody is definitely this Taylor Swift one for “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”. Shot at the height of her Jake Gyllenhaal- Conor Kennedy love triangle/backlash, we came to our own conclusions about Taylor’s love life. Things kept on not working out, because she is actually Gollum. I know, you were thinking this, too.

I love this parody because I saw a lot of me in the character. Stay with me here. For those of you who have never had the pleasure of a late night giggle fest with me, I can get downright crazy- of the silly kind. I love to act really nerdy, jump around and do weird things, and basically make a complete fool out of myself for the enjoyment of others. So, acting like a crazy person toward a really hot guy and then slipping into a Sci-Fi character is kind of like a typical Sunday night for me. Need proof? My roommate tends to document these moments, much to my dismay. You can follow her @IamCrystalMarie

This is a crazy video on so many levels. But, it’s even crazier how freaking ESP we were on Taylor Swift’s love life. We were all joking on set that Taylor Swift would break up with Conor Kennedy before the video came out, and she broke up with him a week after we posted it online. Then, what’s really funny, is the guy who plays Conor Kennedy in our video actually plays Harry Styles in the other Key of Awesome parodies. Creepy coincidence, right? And because weird things happen in three’s, the first week live online our parody had gone “platinum”, kind of like how Taylor Swift’s new album “Red” went platinum in seven days. Okay, the third one is a stretch, but still it’s fun to think about.

So, without further ado, here is the Key of Awesome Parody for Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”.

Here We Go! UMF Korea Round 2 – and bonus BTS video

ULTRA made its first Invasion of Asia in August of last year… and it was INSANE. Since I’ve been with ULTRA as their live stream host, I have been to some really cool places and even better parties, but Korea was definitely a highlight. A lot of the dj’s agreed, saying the Korean crowd rivaled the one in Miami. They were super enthusiastic, as EDM is just breaking over there. It was incredible to feel the energy fill the Seoul Olympic Stadium- which is kind of massive by the way- when the superstars, specifically Tiesto, made it on stage and they were able to experience the party in person, some for the first time. Add to it the theatrics of the ULTRA mainstage, and it was quite a show.

I have captured this insanity, as well as a behind the scenes of what goes on, in the video below.

Now here we are in 2013, ready for the second UMF Korea. I don’t know how it will get bigger and better, but it definitely will. Those Faibisch brothers are always pushing the envelope. Make sure to catch it as we will be live streaming from http://www.youtube.com/umftv.

Here’s a look at my favorite pics from UMF Korea 2012, as well as my behind the scenes video.

Steve Aoki on the main stage at UMF Korea 2012. In Miami it’s hard to get on stage, but at the smaller festivals we get more access to the artists.

Fans at the festival. The audience was primarily composed Koreans and ex-pat Americans, specifically those serving in our armed forces. These pictures show the two main components of our audience, but all coming together as one to party!

Behind the scenes during the UMF TV broadcast: Director Charly Friedrichs, aka Final Kid, and I putting together a package on the festival on the spot. People are surprised when I tell them the broadcast is completely unscripted, as it comes together so well. I think that’s a testament of our relationship; we are both on the same page of what we want and trust each other to do our jobs. Plus, Charly is one of the best directors I’ve ever worked with and the entire UMF TV team is beyond talented.

My favorite fan at UMF Korea. He had on a tail, a fox head scarf and glow sticks galore. In the video below, there is a hilarious exchange where I try to flirt with him, and then he SHUTS me down. I need to step up my game.

The Best of Andrea on AOL On

Fotor060890812

Entertainment news is hard work. Seriously. It’s very glamorous and the stories are very light and fluffy, but it is more than meets the eye. The call time is 4:30am. Yes, 4:30 in the freaking morning! We have to find and write seven stories, find and download pictures to accompany the stories, and then write the headline, description and tags for the video. When that’s all done, we finally get into the studio to shoot it. I am not complaining, though. It makes me feel like my super expensive Journalism degree from NYU was totally worth it.

This week I hosted the music section for REV New Media’s Stereotude brand, which is heavily featured on AOL On, Huffington Post and Yahoo!

These are my favorite stories from the week:

I broke the Paris Jackson suicide attempt story for AOL On:

Details on Lea Michele’s new album got 50,000 hits in just one day on AOL!

;

While this Justin Bieber v. Paparazzo story did well on the YouTube side.

This story warms my Midwestern heart that still believes Cinderella was based on a true story. Where can I find a guy like that? And the answer is definitely NOT Hollywood. And I really dig my Brigitte Bardot look:

Andrea’s Appearance in the Avicii Documentary

Fotor060313397

Avicii is one of the hottest DJ’s in the EDM scene and it is truly an honor to be featured in his new documentary! What’s even cooler is that I have yet to actually interview him. Apparently, my commentary of him walking by me was so riveting that it made it into the film. Not bad!

The documentary is right now only available in Sweden, and there is no way I would have known about it unless a friend in Stockholm messaged me about my appearance. Cue a few posts on Facebook and Twitter asking for the link, and voila, here it is! Click this link to view the documentary. Catch me around the 12:50 mark covering Avicii’s historic set at the ULTRA Music Festival in Miami in 2012:
