UMFTV Dash Berlin Interview is Live!

My exclusive interview with Dash Berlin front man Jeffrey Sutorius is officially live on Ultra Music Festival’s YouTube channel UMFTV! During Ultra Europe last year, Jeffrey and I spent an afternoon in the beautiful city of Split, Croatia to talk all things music- from his goosebump-inducing Ultra Miami set to his worldwide schedule to what keeps him grounded in the crazy DJ world. And grounded Jeffrey is, because what you don’t see in the interview is that during our little walk through Split, he bought me a few keepsake magnets! Jeffrey said this is his go-to souvenir when traveling the world, but since he is such an avid traveler, he’s super picky about what magnets he picks up– or else he’d have to buy more refrigerators. That’s what I like to call #DJProblems.

Dash Berlin is always a huge favorite for our Ultranauts, so I hope you enjoy this in depth interview with one of the world’s most popular DJ’s!

If you’re new to the dance music scene, here’s a little information on Dash Berlin:

Dash Berlin is a Dutch trance music project created in 2007 by Jeffrey Sutorius, Eelke Kalberg and Sebastiaan Molijn. Dash Berlin’s breakthrough came that same year with “Till the Sky Falls Down”, which shot to the top of the Trance charts worldwide. Dash Berlin won the IDMA award for “Best High Energy Track” for “Waiting”. In 2010, Dash Berlin won the award for Highest New Entry by entering the DJ Mag Top 100 at number 15, beating out other famous Dutch DJ’s such as Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, and Ferry Corsten as the highest Dutch entry. Since then, Dash Berlin has consistently held a spot as one of the Top 15 DJ’s in the world, according to DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll.

That’s Me In The New Martin Garrix + Tiesto Video

As some of you may know, I’ve been hosting the Ultra Music Festival live streams for a few years now. One of the perks (besides lots of unnecessary, yet colorful wristbands, partying on giant yachts with famous DJ’s, traveling to exotic locations, having a front row “seat” for the best sets, and making everyone hate me with this parenthetical) is an awesome surprise like this one! I have a cameo in the new Martin Garrix + Tiesto music video The Only Way Is Up.

The video has a slice of life concept. It follows two of the world’s most famous and accomplished DJ’s on their various gigs. One of the stops on their itinerary is the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. The clip catches me as I interview Tiesto for the UMFTV YouTube channel; the in-depth interview will be coming out soon.

But until the interview drops, check out the video below and look for me at the 1:56 mark!

Andrea Brings Dance Music Style to Markkit

EDM Markkit pm

Fashion and Music go hand in hand, and the awesome people at Markkit agree, which is why we are bringing you a new collection for all fans of dance music: The EDM Collection by Andrea Feczko.

As the host of Ultra Music Festivals around the world, I have sometimes an impossible task of finding clothes that represent the high energy of these Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festivals that also look great on camera. Meaning, they should be form fitting, brightly colored, sexy, and classy all at the same time. Oh, and they should try to represent the exotic locations we are in- whether it’s boho-chic Ibiza, super sexy Miami, or Far East Seoul, Korea.

When people think of EDM festivals, they think of tutus, pacifiers, and panda hats. I wanted to show that dance music culture and its fashion has come along way from the raves of the 90’s.

When Markkit approached me to do this collection, I was immediately on board… with A LOT of ideas. In hindsight- probably too many for an initial meeting.

The Markkit team and I went to downtown Los Angeles to hand pick the items I’d wear for Ultra 16 in Miami, Florida. It was kind of like living in fantasy girl world down there. The Fashion District is this little section behind the storefront shops where only retailers are allowed to purchase items. Translation: It’s not open to the public, making the experience that much cooler. There are at least 50 shops to choose from with every style, cut, and color pattern you could possibly want. I fell in love with these dresses; the color scheme reminded me of the beautiful Miami beaches and the dresses were high-end to represent the special Ultra brand: it’s the premiere dance music festival, and Miami is the biggest festival of them all.

Of course, these are great for a girl’s night out to dance to your favorite DJ – local or Top 100!

Needless to say- I’m so excited about this new venture!!

Hardwell: The Path to #1 DJ in the World

Fotor1105152440

There is a new #1 in town!

Hardwell has just surpassed the legendary Armin van Buuren, who has held the #1 spot for a record 5 times, from 2007-2010 and 2012, as the #1 DJ in the world, according to DJ Mag.

Hardwell, pictured above with myself and Damian “The Voice of Ultra” Pinto backstage at Ultra Buenos Aires, has had an incredible year. At that show in February 2013, Hardwell told me in an interview that he was taking his career to the next level. He didn’t put it in terms of “#1 DJ in the world”, but he was definitely putting in an amount of time and effort into sets that is somewhat unheard of in the DJ world. In BA, with Ultra Miami still a month away, he had already clocked in weeks on his one hour set. Some DJ’s just wing it for festivals! For those new to the DJ scene, Ultra Miami is a very important festival for the DJ community as it sets the stage for the rest of the year.

And what a stage Hardwell set.

With his mainstage performance on Day 2 of the two weekend festival, we at UMF TV had our highlight! Swedish House Mafia also had their last performance as a group at Ultra Miami 2013, but for myself, and many fans out there, this set was clearly something special. The first 20 minutes will leave your mind blown. Consider yourself warned.

I was on stage during that performance, and not even half way through the set, people were already starting to predict that this 25-year-old from the Netherlands would dethrone the seemingly invincible Armin van Buuren.

As you can see in this interview after his set, Hardwell clearly knew he had accomplished what he set out to do. It was hard to contain the enthusiasm, myself included. Yes, somehow “mystery” was “history” in my head.

Hardwell was one of my first interviews when I came on board as the live stream host for UMF TV. I have always been impressed by his enthusiasm as well as his willingness to collaborate. Live streaming music festivals is slowly becoming the norm, but when we first came on the scene just in 2012, no one was really doing it. Many of the DJ’s/managers were extremely skeptical and actually refused access to interviews as well as streaming their sets. Hardwell was always very open to it.

I have to think Hardwell’s attitude to embrace social media has only helped him, and help catapult him into the #1 spot. His set at Ultra Miami 2013 will go down as one of the best of all time, if not most definitely this year. And it was seen all around the world thanks to social media. He literally broke Twitter because 30% of Twitter’s bandwith was used for Hardwell after that set. This I heard directly from Robbert himself, who told me in disbelief about the email he received saying they were shutting his account down until the chatter quieted.

Hardwell’s rise is a great lesson for many people, regardless of your profession. Not only does he have talent, but he went above and beyond in his work ethic this year, to outstanding results. He’s also embraced social media, seeing it as what it is, a great promotional tool, instead of being afraid of it. Obviously, music and internet have not had the best relationship in the past, but it’s 2013 and the internet is not going anywhere.

Armin and Hardwell are consistently the two DJ’s who are most available, open, and easy to work with when it comes to live streaming and press coverage. The top guys are clearly on to something…

Congratulations Hardwell on becoming the #1 DJ in the world!
