Get Me In There! And boy did I go!

If the first few months are any indication of what 2016 has to offer, then this is going to be a good year. I’m so excited to announce that I am the new host of Heineken and MLS Soccer’s Get Me In There. It’s a digital series that brings an inside look at the fanIMG_2040s that drum, dance, sing, tailgate, and do whatever it takes to create the most dynamic match day atmosphere in Major League Soccer.

This is such a dream job! If you follow me, you know I love to travel and cheer, but what you may not know is that I’m an athlete first. I’ve been in sports all my life- from figure skating (where I was selected by Richard CallIMG_1988aghan to start training for the Olympic team- until I fell on my head and decided school might be a better option) to soccer where my natural ability to run and attack a ball made me a great defender. I was a Stopper, which no longer exists, but man did I stop! And when I didn’t, I ran really fast to make up for it. #SorryCoach

So it was an incredible honor to interview Nat Borchers, who is a talented defender and has also become the face of the Portland Timbers. I mean, with a beard like that, how can you not be a fan favorite? And spending five seconds with him, you realize he is so much more than the beard. He is a very nice, humble, smart man who treaIMG_2076ts everyone with not only respect, but an unbelievable amount of attention. They say Keep Portland Weird, but Nat says Keep Portland Beard- and I’d agree with that!

On the second day of our shoot, it was Game Day. The Portland Timbers opener was a rematch of the MLS Cup final with Columbus Crew- it was an insane game! If you look at the recap, you’ll see why. It can be hard to jump into a devout supporters group, but Whitney from the Timbers Army welcomed me in with open arms, helped me with all the songs, and even gave me a nifty scarf… which was much appreciated in the cold! I even got up close and personal with Timber Joey, who slices off a piece of the victory log after every goal. The atmosphere was insane. I can’t wait to show you the finished product when the video is all up.

UMFTV Dash Berlin Interview is Live!

 

My exclusive interview with Dash Berlin front man Jeffrey Sutorius is officially live on Ultra Music Festival’s YouTube channel UMFTV! During Ultra Europe last year, Jeffrey and I spent an afternoon in the beautiful city of Split, Croatia to talk all things music- from his goosebump-inducing Ultra Miami set to his worldwide schedule to what keeps him grounded in the crazy DJ world. And grounded Jeffrey is, because what you don’t see in the interview is that during our little walk through Split, he bought me a few keepsake magnets! Jeffrey said this is his go-to souvenir when traveling the world, but since he is such an avid traveler, he’s super picky about what magnets he picks up– or else he’d have to buy more refrigerators. That’s what I like to call #DJProblems.

Dash Berlin is always a huge favorite for our Ultranauts, so I hope you enjoy this in depth interview with one of the world’s most popular DJ’s!

 

If you’re new to the dance music scene, here’s a little information on Dash Berlin:

Dash Berlin is a Dutch trance music project created in 2007 by Jeffrey Sutorius, Eelke Kalberg and Sebastiaan Molijn. Dash Berlin’s breakthrough came that same year with “Till the Sky Falls Down”, which shot to the top of the Trance charts worldwide. Dash Berlin won the IDMA award for “Best High Energy Track” for “Waiting”. In 2010, Dash Berlin won the award for Highest New Entry by entering the DJ Mag Top 100 at number 15, beating out other famous Dutch DJ’s such as Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, and Ferry Corsten as the highest Dutch entry. Since then, Dash Berlin has consistently held a spot as one of the Top 15 DJ’s in the world, according to DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll.

MOX Minute Takeover

This February I moved into a new position at MOX, bringing you the latest news in the dance music world every Wednesday. Yes, Hump Day is my day… how fitting!

I’ve really enjoyed filling in at MOX over the past few months, so it’s great to be in the studio on a more regular basis. Plus, with festival season about to begin next month, there should be a lot of juicy scoops to report on.

With that said, here are a couple of my favorite episodes from this month.

Paul Walker Dead at 40

I met Paul Walker how most people did: falling in love with those crystal clear blue eyes in the movie theater (Skulls, to be exact).

 

I met him for the first time in real life when I was a senior at NYU. I was interning in the Development Department at Fuse, when my boss told me that I was able to sit in on a pitch meeting… with Paul Walker! My all-time celebrity crush!

The meeting was an intimate affair: Paul and his business partner, my two bosses at Fuse, and myself. It was so intimate that I don’t believe I ever made direct eye contact with him. Yes, I really took advantage of that moment. I didn’t make a noise. I didn’t ask a question. I believe my voice cracked when I said my name. It was a highlight of my charismatic skills.

 

Two years later I sat down in the chair above for the Fast & Furious IV junket. Before the interview started, I told him that I had actually met him before (does being in the same room count as meeting?) at Fuse when I was an intern… “Yeah, and I was pitching the skateboarding show,” Paul said, finishing my sentence.

“You remembered me?” I asked. Shocked.

“Of course,” he replied, like it was no big thing, telling me details about that meeting and what I was doing that I didn’t even remember. He asked me how I was finding life after graduation. Him, the star, asking me, the newbie reporter, about my life. And he genuinely wanted to know.

 

I will never forget the feeling I had in that moment.

Flattery. Giddiness. And above all, that I was important.

 

I always imagined I would interview him at the next Fast & Furious junket and tell him how important that moment was to me… but time flies by… and so do those opportunities.

 

Paul paid attention to people, even the intern. Gawker called him a “Goddamn Saint”. I have to agree.

 

Rest in Peace Paul Walker. You were truly someone special.

Thor: The Dark World for Marvel Live on Yahoo!

Yesterday was a good day.

Yep, that’s an understatement!

I was literally the first person on the red carpet for last night’s Thor: The Dark World North American premiere covering arrivals for Marvel Live on Yahoo! along with Ben Lyons and Tamara Krinsky. They just happen to be my two new favorite people. I only give bunny ears to people I like.

I know I just objectified Jaimie Alexander, who plays Lady Sif in the upcoming Thor: The Dark World, by saying “this”, but c’mon, wow! Jaimie pulled a Gwyneth Paltrow and looked amazing. I would know, I was right next to her and totally checked her out… in a completely professional, objective journalism sort of way. 😉

Girl is in shape! Jaimie said she did a lot of martial arts training and pilates for Thor: TDW. I do pilates. Maybe I should start looking into martial arts training…

Jaimie started the evening on an excellent note not only with taking her dress to the next level, but also by arriving 15 minutes EARLY!! That’s unheard of in Hollywood! Chris Hemsworth, the Mighty Avenger himself, arrived just 15 minutes after the red carpet officially opened. And he was only “late” because he was busy filming Jimmy Kimmel. Boy has some great excuses, just ask Jane Foster.

Thor: The Dark World is an excellent movie. I was able to see it last week and it’s great to see our favorite characters in a post-Avengers world. It has a lot more nods to fans, but also has a great storyline/action for people that are just entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In The Avengers I had a moment where I was like, “Aw, hell no!” during the Battle of New York (I won’t give it away, but people can guess for themselves), and within the first 30 minutes of Thor: TDW I had that same reaction.
