Here We Go! UMF Korea Round 2 – and bonus BTS video

    Fotor0611102142

ULTRA made its first Invasion of Asia in August of last year… and it was INSANE. Since I’ve been with ULTRA as their live stream host, I have been to some really cool places and even better parties, but Korea was definitely a highlight. A lot of the dj’s agreed, saying the Korean crowd rivaled the one in Miami. They were super enthusiastic, as EDM is just breaking over there. It was incredible to feel the energy fill the Seoul Olympic Stadium- which is kind of massive by the way- when the superstars, specifically Tiesto, made it on stage and they were able to experience the party in person, some for the first time. Add to it the theatrics of the ULTRA mainstage, and it was quite a show.

I have captured this insanity, as well as a behind the scenes of what goes on, in the video below.

Now here we are in 2013, ready for the second UMF Korea. I don’t know how it will get bigger and better, but it definitely will. Those Faibisch brothers are always pushing the envelope. Make sure to catch it as we will be live streaming from http://www.youtube.com/umftv.

Here’s a look at my favorite pics from UMF Korea 2012, as well as my behind the scenes video.

Steve Aoki on the main stage at UMF Korea 2012. In Miami it’s hard to get on stage, but at the smaller festivals we get more access to the artists.

Fans at the festival. The audience was primarily composed Koreans and ex-pat Americans, specifically those serving in our armed forces. These pictures show the two main components of our audience, but all coming together as one to party!

Behind the scenes during the UMF TV broadcast: Director Charly Friedrichs, aka Final Kid, and I putting together a package on the festival on the spot. People are surprised when I tell them the broadcast is completely unscripted, as it comes together so well. I think that’s a testament of our relationship; we are both on the same page of what we want and trust each other to do our jobs. Plus, Charly is one of the best directors I’ve ever worked with and the entire UMF TV team is beyond talented.

My favorite fan at UMF Korea. He had on a tail, a fox head scarf and glow sticks galore. In the video below, there is a hilarious exchange where I try to flirt with him, and then he SHUTS me down. I need to step up my game.

  • The Best of Andrea on AOL On

Entertainment news is hard work. Seriously. It’s very glamorous and the stories are very light and fluffy, but it is more than meets the eye. The call time is 4:30am. Yes, 4:30 in the freaking morning! We have to find and write seven stories, find and download pictures to accompany the stories, and then write the headline, description and tags for the video. When that’s all done, we finally get into the studio to shoot it. I am not complaining, though. It makes me feel like my super expensive Journalism degree from NYU was totally worth it.

This week I hosted the music section for REV New Media’s Stereotude brand, which is heavily featured on AOL On, Huffington Post and Yahoo!

These are my favorite stories from the week:

I broke the Paris Jackson suicide attempt story for AOL On:

Details on Lea Michele’s new album got 50,000 hits in just one day on AOL!

    ;

While this Justin Bieber v. Paparazzo story did well on the YouTube side.

This story warms my Midwestern heart that still believes Cinderella was based on a true story. Where can I find a guy like that? And the answer is definitely NOT Hollywood. And I really dig my Brigitte Bardot look:

  • Andrea’s Appearance in the Avicii Documentary

    Fotor060313397

Avicii is one of the hottest DJ’s in the EDM scene and it is truly an honor to be featured in his new documentary! What’s even cooler is that I have yet to actually interview him. Apparently, my commentary of him walking by me was so riveting that it made it into the film. Not bad!

The documentary is right now only available in Sweden, and there is no way I would have known about it unless a friend in Stockholm messaged me about my appearance. Cue a few posts on Facebook and Twitter asking for the link, and voila, here it is! Click this link to view the documentary. Catch me around the 12:50 mark covering Avicii’s historic set at the ULTRA Music Festival in Miami in 2012:

  • Cowboys v. Hot Sauce

Fotor0523120922Professional Bull Rider Brendon Clark and I after the Clash of the Cowboys Hot Sauce Challenge.

It’s summer! That means the weather is getting hot hot hot, which is exactly why we ended our Clash of the Cowboys Part 1 with the Hot Sauce Challenge. (Note: For those unfamiliar with the PBR circuit, the Built Ford Tough Series takes a summer break in May and returns in August. Clash of the Cowboys will also return then.) The challenge for our Cowboys was simple enough: hold on to the hot sauce for dear life in the back of our Ford F-150 as a member of the opposing team drives them through a crazy, off-road course. All I can say is thank goodness I did not have to clean up that mess! The inside of the car was poisonous to the nostrils and vomit-inducing to the eyeballs. Sorry, I hope you weren’t just enjoying a lovely meal.

As an unintentional off-roader myself – i.e. my SUV meant to go over that curb, thank you very much! – I truly appreciated this challenge. I also gave mad props to Bull Rider Brendon Clark who – SPOILER ALERT – actually pounded a shot of that nasty stuff in the end. Well, kind of. These guys are the toughest men I’ve ever met, and their stomachs aren’t so shabby either to be handling that.

Here are the clips that aired on CBS Sports during the PBR Built Ford Tough Series:

  • Who am I in the Game of Thrones??

    Fotor051219351

I am a HUGE Game of Thrones fan. And not (just) because of the HBO show, but because of the books. I am a true nerd and I wear my literacy badge with pride. I’m currently 200 pages deep into the third installment, Storm of Swords, and for once I’m thankful I do not have an HBO subscription or else my imaginary fun in Westeros would be ruined by spoilers. Although, there would probably be a lot more nudity in my life…

So, consider my curiosity piqued when a “Game of Thrones Personality Quiz” was suggested for me somewhere on the interwebs. My favorite characters are the ones above, either for their gorgeously long locks and luscious lips or because of their wit, tenacity and overall bada**ness. I’m sure you can figure out which is which. But, deep down, I really want to be Daenerys (the girl in the blue cloak). She’s a princess, 13-years-old with a C cup and is a natural blonde… all the things I want to be in life. Well, minus the 13-years-old.

This was the persona I most identified with on the personality quiz:

    2) Another hopeless romantic! You are loyal, tough and kind. You’ve branched out and are no longer running with your old crew, and you exist in a kind of ever-changing self-imposed exile (that old crew grew stale, going to the same restaurants and bars over and over), and you’ve learned the customs, and gained the respect, of a new host of friends (they’re into tapas!) You’re something of a catch (even if that special someone doesn’t seem to realize it). You don’t mind pets.

Hopeless romantic? Daenerys gave up her baby for her husband. New crew? The Khalasar. Pets? Hello! DRAGONS!!

So imagine my surprise when the test said I was THIS PERSON:

    726739_GOT_HS_0803_EP03_DSC0487-e1364576081503

    I’m a dude.

Not only am I not Daenerys… or a woman for that matter. I’m Ser Jorah Mormont; the dude who is pathetically friend zoned by a 13-year-old.

This is the first test I’ve ever failed.
